DIRECTOR'S EXPECTATION FOR STUDENTS It is not necessary to submit a written recommendation for each audition applicant. However, directors should only nominate students who are strong in all of the following categories: 1) music reading skills; 2) tone quality; 3) social skills; 4) willingness to work with peers and adults, and 5) aptitude for success with long rehearsals.
Instructions for Preparing the Audition Recording: Please include only one student audition per track. Separating scale and unaccompanied song selections into two tracks acceptable if each track is clearly labeled.
1. Vocalization: Sing an unaccompanied major scale using either solfege syllables or numbers, ascending AND descending. Select from the starting pitch below according to the voice part preference. Starting pitch MUST be heard on the recording.
a. Sop. 1 – G above middle C
b. Sop. 2 – F above middle C
c. Alto 1 – D above middle C
d. Alto 2 – B-flat below middle C
2. “America” (“My Country, ‘tis of Thee”): Starting on the pitches listed below, sing the first verse unaccompanied. ACCOMPANIED SINGERS WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.
a. Sop. 1 – B-flat above middle C
b. Sop. 2 – G above middle C
c. Alto 1 – F above middle C
d. Alto 2 – D above middle C
NOTE FOR SENDING mp3 FILES: Please have the chorister’s name and preferred voice part as the track name. There will be a place to attach the mp3 file on the FormDesk application. Files will be reviewed in a manner which will not reveal the child’s name or choir until selections are made.
Sponsoring Directors are responsible for registering their singers online. Below is an attachment for the information needed for the FormDesk online application. Directors are to keep this attached form with parental signature until 30 days after the 2018 Voices United Concert to ensure parental/guardian consent.
